Salute to Music provides an opportunity for middle school students to receive choral and instrumental music instruction along with other students from their boroughs, culminating in concerts in the spring. Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island sites have orchestral and concert band ensembles. Bronx and Manhattan sites each have concert band ensembles. The Salute to Music Citywide Chorus, established in 2012, currently rehearses at NYU Steinhardt in Manhattan.
The Salute to Music program is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who reside within the five boroughs and are currently enrolled in a New York City Department of Education public school. All ensembles meet on Saturday mornings, from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon whenever school is in session and are staffed by licensed NYCDOE music teachers.
